NOTES ON THIS VIDEO:
SQL, tables, relationships; how do you do JOINS in the datastore (nosql schemaless); how do you structure schemaless datastorage to scale?; creating a slice / list of the 800 most recent tweets that should show up on a user’s timeline for each and every user; trading the cost of someone making a tweet (Bieber sending a tweet out to 60M people, each of their individual lists needs to be updated) with the cost of someone retrieving their tweets (one of those users seeing the most recent tweets relevant to them is just pulling the info from their list (id’s which are easy to look up)); the expensive process is writing Bieber’s tweet to 60 M lists; contrast this with if it was done in reverse: every time a user needed to see the tweets relevant for them, you had to query everyone they were following and pull back the most recent tweets from each of those people then order them (to expensive / slow for good usability).; see highscalability.com article on twitter here;
